Summary

On April 2, Dr. Marvin Olasky spoke at Grand Rapids’ Ladies Literary Society and addressed what he views as implicit moral hazards involved in increased federal funding for faith-based charities. Dr. Olasky said that "compartmentalizing" religion and the services provided by social service groups—a potential requirement for groups seeking federal funds—would do damage to both program and participant. He lauded the Bush administration's recognition of the effectiveness of private charity, but urged the administration's adoption of various tax credits over direct federal funding.
