Summary
On April 2, Dr. Marvin Olasky spoke at Grand Rapids Ladies Literary Society
and addressed what he views as implicit moral hazards involved in increased
federal funding for faith-based charities. Dr. Olasky said that "compartmentalizing"
religion and the services provided by social service groupsa potential
requirement for groups seeking federal fundswould do damage to both program
and participant. He lauded the Bush administration's recognition of the effectiveness
of private charity, but urged the administration's adoption of various tax credits
over direct federal funding.
